Quarry Bay is often photographed for its immense towers, but its deeper story lies at street level. This walk uncovers how ferries, factories, worker housing, and corporate landholdings shaped one of Hong Kong’s most compressed urban districts. You will move from a working ferry pier and pioneering low-cost housing to contemporary art inside an industrial building. Community space, office bridges, loading lanes, residential cliffs, and landscaped estate paths reveal different ways old industrial land has been adapted, erased, or repackaged. The route then crosses the former Taikoo Dockyard, now occupied by the enormous Taikoo Shing estate. A preserved fireboat restores the machinery and danger of the working harbour before the Film Archive explores how similar streets and buildings entered Hong Kong’s cinematic imagination. Architecture enthusiasts, urban-history fans, and curious walkers will find plenty to examine without chasing conventional skyline viewpoints. Finish at Aldrich Bay, where reclaimed waterfront space has become an everyday living room for a vertical neighborhood.

Begin at a working pier where ferries once stitched Hong Kong’s industrial eastern shore to factories and dockside communities across the harbour. Listen for engines, announcements, and mooring lines while looking past the water to the dense housing built around this enduring piece of labor geography.
